Florida Faces Another Major Hurricane Threat

Florida is once again bracing for the impact of a powerful hurricane. Hurricane Milton, currently a Category 5 storm, is barreling down on the Gulf Coast and is expected to make landfall on Wednesday, October 9th as a Category 3 or 4 with sustained winds of 120 mph. This comes just 10 days after Hurricane Helene, which became the deadliest mainland hurricane since Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Hurricane and storm surge warnings have been issued for parts of the western Florida coast, with the potential for record storm surge in Tampa Bay. Miami, Orlando and Tampa are each forecasted to receive four to eight inches of rain through Thursday.

Heart to Heart International Responds

Heart to Heart International is actively responding to this disaster, deploying an assessment team to Florida and coordinating with more than 70 partners in the state. Many of these partners had just received support from HHI in the form of hygiene kits, medicine, and medical supplies following Hurricane Helene.

Multiple shipments of hygiene kits are already on their way to support communities in Florida. The Disaster Response Team will continue to support communities in North Carolina while also monitoring the track of the storm and preparing for potential needs in Florida.

As Hurricane Milton approaches, Heart to Heart International remains committed to providing essential aid and support to those affected by this devastating storm.
